BLOG – Loot Cards for 5e

Last week I came across a Kickstarter for something I’ve wanted for a long time – Loot Cards for 5th Edition. I’ve been using the official Spellbook cards for a while and my players love them, and for a few months now I’ve been mocking up my own cards for magic items to give out when the group find loot. My home-printed ones don’t look great, though, and I’ve been hoping that WoTC would produce something similar to the Spellbook cards for treasure.

They still haven’t, but Ryan Haswell’s Kickstarter looks like it will fill exactly that hole. Because of the terms of the Open Licence Agreement, not all of the magic items from the Dungeon Master’s Guide can be reproduced – but most of those items are featured in the SRD, which can be used commercially. Haswell says that most of the magic items in the SRD will be included in the Loot decks, along with some custom items to fill the gaps.

The cards look really good and they’ve certainly proven popular already – the Kickstarter is already funded and (at the time of writing) has completed most of the stretch goals. Shipping outside the US is a little pricey, but Haswell has stated on Reddit that he’s working on bringing the prices down, so we’ll see how that plays out.

These look like they’ll be a really handy addition to your game, and I think they’re worth checking out.
